Valerie McClain raises som troubling points about what will happen to
women's perceptions of the suitability of their own milk at such time when
canned human milk becomes available.
Let's see. Given the choice of canned fruit cocktail and fresh fruit salad,
would you take the can? Fresh peas or canned peas? Fresh shrimp or canned
shrimp? Fresh cow's milk (some of us still ingest it) or canned? Or the
kicker: fresh pasta, or the canned version?
It has been suggested earlier on Lactnet that offering a plate of home-baked
cookies beside a plate of store-bought, at classes for expectant parents,
can illustrate the superiority of the Real Thing in a lighthearted way. If
people have such poor taste that they would go for the cans, maybe there's
no hope for any of us.
