I must give a very short presentation over a small
part of the health benefits of breastfeeding to a
diverse group of mostly military soldiers from around
the hospital. Very few from OB or peds. I want to
give them some facts and comparisons to "mold" their
opinion regarding the value of human milk. I see this
as an opportunity to be one of their first exposures
to thinking about human milk. I think most of the
people coming will either have no opinion or feel it
is equal to formula. They rarely deal with
breastfeeding moms and are mostly single soldiers.

In trying to come up with a presentation, the thought
took hold what FIRST made me value human milk for
babies? How about all of you? I think the difference
behind my passion for helping families to breastfeed
and another person who sees the two liquids as similar
is the value I place with human milk.

So how can I help someone else get a glimpse of this
in 50 minutes?

In working with the vast numbers of clients you must
see, have any of you found some catchy lines or
phrases or ways for getting attention in comparing the
two? I remember someone at a conference compare
formula vs human milk with a trip to Hawaii leaving
from Pennsylvania.... And another time someone
mentioning "living milk" under a microscope as opposed
to a formula liquid with no life. I like the homemade
chocolate chip cookie idea also and I will see if I
can work it into a smooth transition. (Plus the
presentation is after lunch so it might wake people
up!) But I would like to hear some more comparisons
if possible.

I know the collective wisdom represented by Lactnet
will have many tried and true, or new ideas. Thanks
to all of you in advance. I cant wait to see what
comes across!
