Dear Betsy, Thank you for sharing your experiences with c-sec. Because of
so many current, cultural factors many people tend to forget that c-sec was
originally designed for saving mother and baby from certain death. When it
is really necessary it is life saving. Using it for convenience is typical
of the way we go overboard on an idea.

I am always amazed by mothers who beat themselves up for not recovering more
swiftly after the c birth of a baby. Everyone focuses on the fact that mom
had a baby, hooray, no one pays any attention to the fact that mom had major
abdominal surgery. By trivializing c-sec with flimsy reasons for doing
same, we do women a disservice by dismissing her pain and discomfort. "Oh
she just had a c." "She's just a complainer/whiner/sissy." No one pays
attention to the fact she had major surgery! When I taught nursing students
I used to drill the fact that this woman has 2 major life traumas to deal
with. She's just become a mother and she is a post op patient. It's not
easy and the modern medical opinion that a c is even easier than vag
delivery just contributes to the misunderstanding.

I cringe when I read about c for convenience, being easier etc. I cringe at
the trivial reasons used to justify something for HCPs convenience.( I think
they have brainwashed themselves.) I cringe at that new report circulating
about c being safer than VBAC. (more ut rupture, esp if they use hormones -
duh). Woman are the losers!

First we lost BF to "science", now we are losing birth. Soon all the little
darlings will be grown in tubes and vats and pop out fully grown, no
parental input needed! Oops the air is getting thin up here I will now
climb off my soap box! Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
