Vicki,
My agency, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies of Kern County, (yeah, I'm the
one who stirred up everyone with the CLE vs. IBCLC stuff!) just implemented
a Toll-free BF Telephone Support Line (we call ours Comfort Line). It began
on April 1st and we received thirty calls in April and thirty-seven in May -
and it looks like we'll double that for June!. We see our Comfort Line (so
far!) as a great success. Our major indicator at this (early) time is that
our community has had a "Warm Line" (providing support for all parenting
questions for children 0-5 years) for over twenty-five years and their
average number of calls per month is 15! So in our first month we doubled
what they do! Of course we're 'open' more (everyday from 6am to 10pm) and
now collaborating with them (they'll refer any bf calls to us - we'll refer
anything non-bf). We've also began to track who is contacting us and it's
primarily moms with babies less than one week old. In our community we have
only three IBCLCs at two (out of five) birthing hospitals - so we've flooded
our flyers (through collaboration with a program which visits each new mom
prior to discharge) especially at those other three hospitals. In our case,
our major indicator will be a rise in bf rates with our follow-up calls in
the next three years. We're following up four times (the first basically
being a satisfaction survey/review of the volunteer) - at six weeks, six
months and one year to see if they are still bf.

I'd be very interested to see what others provide you - please send me
anything you think may be of relevance to our project!

Best of luck in your search!
