Hello Everyone!
I had to respond to Kelly's post about texture aversions.
Among my clients, I have had several whose babies would not take any other
foods until after the first year, (one was well after). These children also
experienced many allergies once other foods were introduced, and did exhibit
textural preferences. However, I interpreted it as the baby being wiser....
Perhaps the baby refused these early attempts to introduce solid foods due to
these allergies ... perhaps the foods tasted horrid to this particular child,
as a biologic aversion to potentially harmful foods. I also interpreted the
textural preferences in the same way.
Many of these mothers tried very hard to get their babies to take other foods
... attempted many various foods of many various textures, but the baby would
not accept any of them.
One case in particular comes to mind:
baby refused any foods at all until 15 months. Then, he would eat very wet
unbleached rice, some humus, but little else. Once he did start eating more
foods, he developed the symptoms of wheat and dairy allergies.
I will look forward to any other responses to this question.
