Dia Michel's new book, Breastfeeding Annual International 2001, has a
chapter, actually Appendix Number 3, by Elizabeth Baldwin and her husband
Kenneth Friedman titled "A Current Summary of Breastfeeding Legislation in
the US." For the mom battling unreasonable visitation rights by the father
in Virginia, it might be helpful to know how different states and
jurisdictions have handled some of these issues. Also, Elizabeth Baldwin
has tons of information on the La Leche League International website about
breastfeeding and family law. She is the expert, and her approach is both
thorough, reasonable, and best of all, it works. All LCs should probably
have a folder in their file cabinet labelled "Legal Issues" that includes
copies of Elizabeth Baldwin's information for lawyers and for mothers --
ready at hand to refer to and make copies of when the occasion arises.
