I saw a 5 week old baby with a weight gain of only 110g since birth,
very jaundiced and not looking so good. The mum had been placing a
bottle teat (and a not very clean one at that) over her nipple because
somebody told her the nipples were too flat. This poor baby was working
so hard and my first thought was how am I going to get this baby near
the breast when for 5 weeks she had been feeding 2 inches away from it.
After removing the teat the baby latched beautifully on her second
attempt and fed like there was no tomorrow, and I just sat back there
and thought well how is that for mother nature and sheer survival
instinct.
It was a good day that day. Meg Kingsley piano player by trade, well
versed in the art of BF and learning as much as I can about the science.
