I'm not usually this bold on Lactnet, but here goes:

Bravo, Kathy D! I've never understood why the choice on how and what to feed
any infant (and especially a medically fragile preemie) is any lower a
priority than making the right choices with regard to breathing, pain
management, medications, or anything else. If a baby can't breathe and can't
eat, it can't live. With the Herculean efforts (and costs) made to keep
premature and ill babies alive with respirators, drugs, etc., it seems so
ridiculous to turn around and increase the risk of them dying from
formula-feeding associated NEC. It just doesn't make sense. And I don't
think it's best practice either.

Is my opinion a bit harsh? A bit offensive to some people? Probably. But so
should be unnecessary infant pain, suffering and death. That's my opinion.
