There is a very good, short, calm discussion of the contraindications to breastfeeding in the Feb 2001 issue of The Pediatric Clinics of North America. Written by Robert M Lawrence, MD and Ruth A. Lawrence MD. See pp. 244-248. One statement included in those pages is:
"In industrialized countries, unless a major spill or exposure has occured, mothers are not at risk for herbicides or pesticides in their milk." There is also a table with a summary of medical contraindications to breastfeeding in the US, which our doctors have already started using.
