"I will now demonstrate the use of the seat belt for
anybody who has not been in a car in the last 20 years." quoted Cynthia of
the flight attendant.

Yes, this is funny, but relevent to someone I know right now. A friend has
a Sherpa couple staying with them, with a baby due in August. I loaned them
my baby's (outgrown!) carseat to use for the first 2 mos after Baby Sherpa
is born since upon their return to Nepal they will have no need for a infant
carseat. There are no roads in their village.

the other day, the woman's brother called at 5;30 AM. Their host (my
friend) was *really* annoyed, but found out later that the brother had
walked *2 weeks* to get to a phone to call his sister! Imagine that.......
I'm having a hard time doing so. (yes, said host did feel foolish for her
annoyance.)

Having said all that (and I really do appreciate the humor of the above
instructions, btw!)- I'm looking for information on post-partum care of
Sherpa women. Paldan will be having a hospital birth, I may doula as well
as another woman, and they are so far, fine with the hospital thing. I've
contacted Stacy Leigh Pigg about postpartum diets, but she is in Finland
right now. I need to gather whatever information I can about expectations
for postpartum in the Everest Region of Nepal. I tend to think they may
follow Aureurvedic (someone please tell me how to spell that!) principles
from something Stacy mentioned, but I need to know for certain. and anything
else that may be relevent. The host has never given birth, and I'm sure she
doesn't want to do anything culturally "wrong" anyway.

thanks. Kate
