I haven't read the article thoroughly yet, but two things come to
mind on first skimming it. First and foremost, the study was funded
by Avent! I like their pump and certainly recommend it to a mom who
is consideri8ng using a hand pump. However, one should always look
with some degree of scepticism at any study whose outcome favors the
sponsor of the study. It may be fully reliable and unbiased, but
the question will always remain as to whether some bias has crept
in.
I also wondered whether British women view pumping any differently
than US women. In the US, we seem so tied to technology, that our
faith in machines may lead us to prefer them over non-mechanical or
less mechanical means.
I look forward to reading it all when I can do so withour being
rushed.
The article was in Pediatrics, I think the July 2001 issue.
