I often begin the mother with More Milk or More Milk Plus, accompanied by
pumping. When there is some secretion (usually a "peanut butter-like
substance, bringing on much excitement) then I recommend beginning
Domperidone. I recommend a decrease in the MM but the mother does continue
it while she brings in her milk supply.

As some of you know, I do not recommend Reglan because of personal
knowledge of two mothers who had serious depression with the drug, one so
serious that she had to stop breastfeeding because of hospitalization.
Also, stopping the drug causes a drop in the supply and a mother cannot
continue on it for an extended period of time.

However, since Domperidone does not cause any serious side effects--none in
my clients other than a milk supply--I work with the mothers and their MDs
to get the drug. Extended use has caused no problems.

I had one client who had 4 four-ounce bottles in her freezer when she got
her baby. She had never given birth and she was able to produce 1/2 of her
infant's milk needs.
