I think it's very tough to compare tax rates and quality of life in
different places. There are many people (some of them politicians) who will
tell you that Canadians are overtaxed, and at this time of year many of us
are not very happy about the tax situation. But most of the people I know
feel that the benefits of things like universal access to medical care (even
though current governments have damaged that) and reasonable maternity
leaves are well worth it.
