Ok another consensus question from you all...at what point do you suggest
Don't offer Don't refuse? The one problem I have with this style of weaning
is that mom's with 12 or 18 month old children who use this tactic often
take the non asking child for a child that is ready to wean rather than a
child that is just gaining independence. I usually tell moms to still offer
if they are comfortable with it and want to extended nurse (EN). Usually
the child will get over the not asking hump in a few months and what the
breast again but if you have weaned then there may be some strife there,
especially if the mom wasn't ready to and now she sees her child wasn't
ready either.

I heard a local LLLL say something wonderful that I try to impart to my
clients... she said that she knows she has done things right with her kids
when she can't remember the day on which her child last nursed. This way it
is truly child lead weaning, weaning which takes place over such a period of
time that mom and baby are comfortable with it.
