Aloha,

I came across an article given to me by a childbirth educator. I am not sure
of the validity, but....

The article was released in January 1979 by United Press International as
"Infant Brain Damage Linked to Delivery Drugs." The article discusses a
study by Dr. Yvonne Brackbill, in which she states medications given during
childbirth cause an average IQ loss of 4 points. Accusations were made that
the NIH was delaying release of the study. At the time of the article, Dr.
Brackbill was a pyschologist at the University of Florida in
Gainesville--specializing in the study of the effects of drugs on the brain.

Anyone heard of this? The person who gave me the article uses this IQ info in
conjunction with the info for IQ with breastfeeding saying that if mom has an
epidural and does not breastfeed, baby stands to lose 14 IQ points. What do
you think?!

Aloha,
