Hi jennifer,
I'm not sure why you copied me on this since I didn't post a reply ( I don't
think :) ).......
At any rate, maybe it was because I have added to the discussion regarding
infrequent BMs in the past.....If so then you either have a terrific memory
or a terrific method for collating and storing info.!
you write in response to Gloria's original post;
The scenario you describe below is so common around here. Baby is gaining
okay or even well for a couple of weeks, then suddenly the supply seems low
and the baby starts spacing out bm's.
(Everyone on Lactnet probably knows by now that I am 100% convinced it is
never normal for babies to skip bm's for even one day, but I am in the
minority.)
What makes you think this baby isn't continuing to gain well?
The question (as I have understood it) regarding stool frequency has circled
around those babes who are gaining well (sometimes really well!) AND have
decreased their stooling frequency. As has been discussed round and round on
Lactnet, there are a large number of babes who exhibit this stooling pattern
but appear to be healthy, fat, happy babies! Because of its frequency and
because this subset appears to be beautifully healthy, this behavior is
described as a normal variant in the exclusively breast fed, otherwise
healthy, baby.
Am I 100% convinced that this is fact? Never! That type of statement wouldn't
make for good science because I realize that my beliefs are based largely on
my experiences despite my efforts to remain as objective as possible.
