Kathy said: And in the process, they've lost the understanding that we all
need friends,
we all need support, we all need affirmation of the choices we've made.
---------------------
I *just* heard Barbara Ehrenreich talking about that- recorded when she was
here in Boulder about 6 mos ago. Corporations stress "the family" as a need
(to make employees more productive) but no one thinks of *friends*.
My mother was motherless, but well mothered by her surrogate mother (as
allowed)- but was *very* much into the idea that people can do anything and
don't need to be a weenie and ask for support. I've spent my entire adult
life unlearning the lessons she gave me- and it's hard. Even if your
students are looking at you with horror when you suggest support groups, you
*are* planting the seeds.
I now suggest LLL, an IBCLC, a local group of moms and a less formal LC for
support for women- as needed and as appropriate.
kate, who never could do study groups in college. :-(
