Far from the world's expert on these things, I wanted to say that I have
always read that this kind of thing (underdilution) is very dangerous,
but I know that some people who *really* need to get baby's weight up
desperately will add *oil* (not sure what kind...soy perhaps?) to
formula diluted to the right strength. I have heard about this before,
and it would *seem* to me (though perhaps I'm wrong) that this would be
"less dangerous" perhaps, in that a) there is not such a high load on
the kidneys, and b) the oil will perhaps furnish more calories per ounce
than the extra calories there are in the under-diluted formula? If by
any chance the baby is on a soy-based formula, I am assuming that soy
oil would probably be tolerated ok, the baby having already had soy
proteins in its formula? Maybe I'm wrong here too...

I'm not sure what one would add to cow's milk formula, unless it's still
soy oil.

I've certainly heard (was it here?) of skimming the fat off expressed
refrigerated breastmilk with a spoon to get baby to lick it off the
spoon, for weight gain, but that would not be possible with formula, as
the fat content of formula does not settle out.

I guess I'm assuming that any oil already added to formula (whatever is
listed on the can) could be added in greater quantities? Anyone know if
this is wrong to suppose this?

Fio.
