Two things: One.....why does weight gain need to be boosted? A slow weight
gain may be fine for THAT infant. Two.....Mom's milk supply will be best
served by frequent nursing that isn't compromised with a less than perfect
latch for having a tube in the mouth while latched.
I really hate to see "supplementing" even being considered for "short term".
If we're talking about an adoptive mom that hasn't been able to get a full
supply up from never having lactated before.....ok.....I can support using an
SNS in that situation.
It has to be remembered that it is a rare situation that requires
supplementation. Increasing mom's supply should be the focus. Getting
optimal latch established for optimal nursing should be concentrated on.
