Some supporters of bf do that up to a point, with their best intentions. I
see this on a daily basis...Everything is fine with breastfeeding, until
the baby is supposed to be sleeping through the night and doesn't, until
solids are introduced, or until teething, or until walking, or until
talking......and so on. The missinformation is enormous!! I in my opinion
this is the reason why great efforts should be invested in the basic
education of HCPs. Lactation is of such importance that the knowledge of
the "basics" and the review of the most relevant and current research,
should not be left to the individual interest of HCPs and other related
professions. It should be mandatory. We are talking breast physiology,
sucking mechanisms and of course, all the cultural imperatives that affects
breastfeeding, since we are dealing with human subjects, not just bodily
fluids and mechanisms.
And if you do not know....ask a woman....in the field of lactation, ideally,
a breastfeeding mother.
