Naomi wrote, "It took the government 40 years to do it with cigarettes and
that was only after enormous public pressure and many many
lawsuits that the tobacco companies won. The government will
not do so willingly and will not take the lead in this.
The dairy and pharmaceutical industry lobbies are quite powerful,
just like the tobacco industry. They have friends in Congress
and in the medical world, as we all know.
Unfortunately, I think we are in for a long struggle that will
require a strategy of approaching the issue from many angles,
involving people from many backgrounds and interests."

Naomi is quite right. In a good and just world the lion and the lamb could
lie down together. But...we don't live in that kind of world...not yet at
least. Hm...speaking of tobacco--did you know that there is a patent for
producing human lactoferrin in a tobacco plant? patent # 5914448 called
"Process for the preparation of antiviral plant transformed with lactoferrin
gene," filed in 1997 with the assignee being the Koren Institute of Science
and Technology. There are so many ways to make human lactoferrin nowadays.
When will these men and women of science figure out that the best way for
babies to get human lactoferrin is through human breasts.. Yes I know no one
makes any money that way--unless of course you patent it.
