There are 2 ways to use metronidazole (Flagyl etc). First is a 2 gram dose,
once dose, that is followed by 12-24 hours of D/C BF. The other is 200 mg 3
x day, where the infant gets approx. 3 mg/kg/500 ml intake per day "which is
much less than the 10-20 mg/kg recommended theraputic dosefor infants. Hale
also states that "thus far, no reports of untoward effects in breastfed
infannts have been published for the 2 gm STAT dose, or the 250 mg three
times daily for 10 day dosage regimen." In other words, take med and nurse.
I believe Trimox is a brand of amoxicillin, altho it may be a combination
product. I can't find it defined anywhere, but see it given to infants and
