Can anyone supply me with research based information I can share with a
mother of a 18 month old who has recently been diagnosed with malnutrition,
failure to thrive, and rickets? The PCP thinks the baby has an oral aversion
to solids, yet when I went into the patient's room the baby was munching away
on potato chips. Mother reports baby nurses 3-4 times during the day for 2-3
minutes a nursing (along with 2 five minute feeds at night). There are
definitely some serious social issues going on within the family as well.
The mother reports baby eating bits of chicken nuggets, scrambled egg, and
pizza -nothing more. Any nutrient rich food ideas and a decent feeding plan
I can encourage mom to begin introducing? Money looks to be a big issue here
too. Thanks, Susan Manore, IBCLC
