"For whatever reason, a serrated knife like a steak knife works
*splendidly*
for me, where a straight-bladed knife - you're right - is a hazard."
I, too find a good serrated knife works very well. In fact, I have
to do it slowly or it winds up breaking off as I get nearly through.
There is a difinite hazard that I found the hard way. It cuts so
quickly, that on one occasion I wound up banging the thumbnail of
the hand that was holding the knife into the table and it hurt for a
week!
20cc syringe works best for the vast majority of moms. A few with
small diameter nips may do better with a 12cc. I keep a few already
cut (I tape the plastic cover for the syringe shut to keep it clean)
in my LC cart. That way I can keep the knife safely tucked away
(JCAHO coming soon-have to keep those details in mind).
