This is to anyone considering going to Acapulco in July, but who may have
some of the same questions I had about personal security, carrying
electronic devices, etc. So I asked my friend, Roberta, the "Mexican MIlk
Maid" and she carified a lot for me. I do have the OK to post this. It may
help some of you who are on the fence, finally decide to go.

ILCA ACAPULCO - Q & A's

If you have already registered for ILCA 2001 Acapulco, you can skip this
message.

BIENVENIDO A MEXICO! NOS VEMOS EN ACAPULCO!
(Welcome to Mexico! See you in Acapulco!)

If you are still trying to make up your mind, read on....

Question:

The rules say our personal possessions can't be valued at more than $300.
Does that mean leave your PDAs, Laptops & cell phones home?

Answer:

You can bring in a laptop, pager and cell phone for personal use. Now days
this is very common and almost like bringing you toothbrush. PRACTICALLY
EVERYONE IN MEXICO HAS A CELLULAR PHONE, MY DEAR!!! BRING IT ALONG, BY ALL
MEANS.

Question:

Some people may NOT be planning on going because of the information from the
ILCA brochure that limits the value of possessions to $300. What can I
legally take with me when I travel to Mexico for ILCA this summer?

Answer:

The Mexican custom declaration form says the following (translation):

You can import into the country DUTY FREE the following items:

Personal items, new or used, such as clothes, shoes and personal
products-toiletries in such an amount as is commensurate with the duration
of the trip and in an amount not to be used for sale.

(meaning donīt pack 25 dresses of the same design!)

Also, DUTY FREE , 1 photographic camera, and 1 video camera, 12 rolls of
undeveloped film or video cassettes, 1 new or used portable computer
equipment (i.e. LAPTOP), 1 celular telephone and one beeper-pager, magazines
and medication for personal use, and the suitcases necessary for
transporting the above items.

For people over the legal age of 18, you also may import a maximum of 20
packages of cigarettes, 25 cigars OR 200 grams of tabaco, and up to 3 liters
of wine, beer or other alcoholic breverage.

IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE MENTIONED ITEMS, you may also bring into the
country merchandise with a value up to $ 300.00 USD (or the equivalent in
Mexican pesos) EXCEPT WINE, BEER AND LIQUOR, CIGARETTES AND CIGARS.

QUIZ for SMART IBCLC'S

1. Do we smart travelers flaunt our cash in public?
NO!

2. Do we take our most gorgeous diamond earrings on vacation trips?
OF COURSE NOT!

3. Do we keep a vigilant eye on our luggage when traveling in airports and
bus stations?
YOU BET WE DO!

4. Do these same wise travel habits apply whether we are traveling to New
York, Scottsdale, Boca Raton, Sydney or Acapulco?
ABSOLUTELY!

5. Are IBCLC's smart travelers?
WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!

CONCLUSION:

ANYONE WHO HAS FIGURED OUT THAT BREASTMILK IS BETTER FOR BABIES THEN
MARGARITA COCKTAILS DESERVES TO ATTEND THIS YEARīS ILCA CONFERENCE IN
ACAPULCO. It's going to be great!

See you there! VIVA ILCA 2001 ACAPULCO!
