When I did my research in 1993-4 I found that hospital policy had an impact
on how nurses perceived their ability to help mothers. It sort of was
like: good policy=nurse had increased confidence in her ability to help
mothers BF; bad policy=decreased confidence. So it would seem that well
written and enforced hospital BF policy would lead to increased BF success
for mothers. Decent hospital policy, communicated to staff is part of the
10 steps for BF. It is such a simple and logical step and does not cost
mega bucks. I can't understand why it is so hard for hospitals to grasp
this. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
