I find that babies with recessed jaws with short tight tongues are
difficult to feed for about 3 months. Once the suck training has him
keeping his tongue down, it can be helpful to entice the baby into
opening further by placing mom's nipple above the upper lip; this way
baby has to extend his head and open wide to reach for the nipple. If
mom then pulls him toward her (with her hand between his shoulder
blades), it will accentuate the head extension and draw that short
mandible into the breast. Even with a scrupulous asymetrical latch and
deep attachment, this baby might not be able to strip the breast well.
Is the mom willing to pump after feeding and use a supplemental tube
device at breast?
