Hi all. I am on another list for those suffering with alopecia (hair loss ranging from patches to complete baldness). My 15 year old daughter has had this strange disease for 2 years, and the list is very helpful and supportive.
One pregnant mother on the list states that her hair has grown in thicker and more lush since she became pregnant, but is worried that her hair will begin to fall out after the baby is born. Of course, breastfeeding was brought into the discussion, with one mother replying that her hair only fell out on her third child, immediately after discontinuing breastfeeding. She did not breastfeed her first two children.
Can anyone on the list come up with a reason why this would occur? It must be related to estrogen levels, but I am sure you all can enlighten me in other directions as well.
Thanks!
Brenda Phipps, BS, IBCLC
