OK! Now I AM FRUSTRATED. Recently I co-presented a lunch time talk to a
group of pediatric residents titled "A Time to Wean". We, of course, used
K. Dettwyler's research, and lots of straight, professional organizations'
recommendations (AAP, ACOG, UNICEF, ACNM and others). To my frustration I
could not find an exact recommendation from either APHA nor WHO. But, the
woman who wrote the piece in the NYTimes the other day referred to WHO as
making a minimum "two years of breastfeeding" recommendation and I saw it
again in an article by Jennifer Taylor in Nurturing Magazine , but neither
has a reference! I did get the APHA to answer my questions and they are
making policy statements at this years meeting. But, I cannot get the woman
from the NYTimes to answer my Emails in which I have asked her to give me
the WHO source. And, I don't know how to get ahold of Jennifer taylor. In
addition, there is nothing on the WHO web site and nothing in their archives
which specifically states 2 years. I would love to add this to my
presentations but secondary sources don't cut it.
Does anyone out there know where this is published (not as a secondary
source)? Or is the WHO represented here on the list? If you are reading
this (WHO) please send me a reference so I can refer to it in my work with
pediatricians!
