I must admit that I live an insulated life. Most of my friends with babies
and small children are breastfeeding them and then weaning to *real* food.
Last weekend my eyes were opened to how the rest of our society lives. We
were attending a communal event and seating was random. We were at a table
which included a family with a 2 yr old. He was obviously very hungry. His
mother completely ignored the nice variety of breads, sandwich fillings,
salads and fruits at the buffet, and opened a can of fruit, which he
refused. She then opened a can of Pediasure, saying something about how he
REALLY needed this. He refused this too, all the while reaching for the
*real* food. When I suggested that he might like a taste of what the
grown-ups were eating I got blank stares.
Sighhhhhhh
