Over what time period was this?
I agree with the breast compression, particularly towards the end of the feed
when babe is losing interest. I have concerns about the one side x 2-3 hrs.
suggestion UNLESS Mom has an oversupply. My guess is she doesn't but you
haven't remarked either way. As has been discussed many times here on
Lactnet, the practical applications of hindmilk/foremilk balance have been
overstated in the breastfeeding world as of late.
When I receive a call like this I emphasize the close observation of the feed
ie. watching for swallows, learning what influences them etc.(many third time
Moms don't pay attention AT ALL!),try f-ball hold (particularly if she hasn't
been using it, IME, it often increases flow) and, again, compression. I would
want the babe weighed after 2 days with the above changes, with continued
increased frequency if all is well. If weight gain isn't sufficient, this
babe needs a consult!
