Hi,
Forgot to mention a couple of books in my last
post about midwives in the Bible. These may have
some useful info for you.
  1. A Time to Be Born: Customs and folklore of Jewish
Birth" by Michele Klein 1998, Jewish Publication Society.
Overall, I don't think this is a great book, but it many
have some good info. for you.
  2. "Baby Lore: Ceremonies, Myths and Traditions to
Celebrate a Baby's Birth", by Odette Chathan-Baker
1991, MacMillan
This book has traditions etc from many cultures
including a few Jewish ones.
  3. "B'Sha'ah Tovah: The Jewosh Woans Clinical and Halahchic
Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth" Baruch Finkelstein and
Michal Finkelstein 1993, Feldheim Publishers.
This is written by a husband wife team, he's a rabbi
and she's a nurse. Clinical and Jewish information
are integrated throughout the book. Feldheim publishes
books for the Orthodox Jewish market.
 Hope this is helpful.
