Denise,

You are very observant to ask about parenting methods. Many times parents
using Babywise but especially Preparation for Parenting (the religious
version of BW) will not tell their HCP that they are scheduling. They have
been taught this by their class leaders or GFI Contact Moms.

You wrote: >Then with increased calorie needs, the ten minutesonly every 4
hours wasn't cutting it.

This is just one example of the older editions of BW and Prep floating
around and being reused. GFI has changed the 'acceptable minimum' intervals
b/w feedings from the original 4 hours written by Anne Marie Ezzo, to 2.5 -
3 hours, but GFI has never retracted the original information, recalled the
old editions or admitted that this was bad advice. Many of these mothers
only associate with "like-minded" GFI parents and have no access to newer
information that apparently God has had a new revelation, and it is now
"biblical" to feed every 2.5 - 3 hours as opposed to the original 4. Great
comfort to all those mothers and babies who suffered, huh.

Of course, GFI never explains with baby sleeping 12 hours (excuse me, being
ignored for 12 hours) how you can get 8 feeds in the remaining 12 hours at 3
hour intervals. My math says that's only 4 feeds, but then, I haven't taken
Ezzo calculus;-)

I've found it's helpful to mention this disparity in intervals to GFI moms.
Perhaps it will help them start thinking.....
