This is my own experience with being out of it after a c-section. By the
time I had my c-section I had been awake for 48 hours and laboring on
pitocin for about 28 of them. :( So, while I only had an epidural and some
pain medication (what kind, I couldn't tell you) I was completely out of it
from the lack of sleep and the pain medication combination. I had my
c-section at 5am and though I was walking by that evening, I could not have
cared for my baby alone. My midwife did bring her to my breast, but my
vision was so blurred that I couldn't even really see her. The only thing
that brought me out of my drug-induced, sleep-deprived fog, was that the
nurses put my daughter in a warmer (she was having problems maintaining her
body temperature) next to my bed and I just couldn't stand to see her all
alone in there. So, I took her into the bed with me and immediately felt my
mind clear and knew that one day I would feel normal again and that I could
take care of my baby girl. :)
