Just my two cents worth on slow weight gain.  I know getting personal isn't
the best way to make overall evaluations, but it seems as though SWG is very
personal to alot of us.  Here goes.  Both of my boys were born at 7+ pounds.
Completely breastfed from the start.  Their weight profiles dropped like a
stone to way below 0% (both kids had same pattern, 2 years apart.)I was
concerned but no one else was.  At one year my first son was barely 13
pounds.  By two he was about 17 pounds, and he looked like those poor
Biafran kids we saw on posters in the 60s.

None of the various pediatricians involved wanted to deal with me because I
was already well known as a breastfeeding "zealot".  Well, to make a long
VERY SAD story short, finally when my first son was almost 4 I got somebody
to listen to me and it turned out that he has Cystic Fibrosis.  So did my
second son (he was 2).  If somebody had listened to my concerns earlier they
would have had treatment earlier.  But because I was breastfeeding.......

The lesson here is that sometimes slow weight gain IS a cause for concern.
Lets listen to the moms.

BTW - sad story has a happy ending - oldest boy is 13 and over 75th
percentile, second son is 10 and at 50%, and both are very smart.  I can't
help but think that breastmilk saved their lives.
