Azithromycin is the correct spelling.
The following breast milk concentrations were reported during an oral
regimen of azithromycin in a breastfeeding mother: 1.3 mcg/mL one hour after
the first 500 mg dose; 2.8 mcg/mL 30 hours after the first dose; 0.64 mcg/mL
after the first 1 gram dose. Assuming a consumption of 150 mL/kg/day of
breast milk, it was estimated that the infant would have received a maximum
of 482 mcg/day of azithromycin. The amount of drug in breast milk is
thought to be clinically insignificant.
In addition, this amount is far below recommended pediatric doses.
Also, I feel basically with this drug, breastfeeding should follow the same
guidelines of erythromycin, which is approved by the AAP for use during
breastfeeding.
