Hi all,
I have not posted for quite some time.
I agree that it is not necessary to sterilize the personal parts to her pump
every day as long as she and her baby are healthy. Washing with hot, soapy
water should be sufficient. If the mother is concerned, she could sterilize
once a week or as often as she chooses. Sorry to disagree about using a
dishwasher but mothers do put these pieces in the dishwasher thinking that
they are being sterilized but in reality the water doesn't get hot enough to
do this. I would also be concerned about detergent residue and wear and tear
from the use of caustic detergent. In time plastic can become brittle after
being repeatedly put through the dishwasher.
In a situation such as this I would not suggest using this pump for returning
to work full time. While it is a good pump it was designed for occasional
use. The mother may find that her supply decreases although I have worked
with one mother who had used it with great success for a year. I think this
is an exception though. I believe the motor is rated for 150 hours. If this
mother purchased a pump that is designed for the purpose for which she is
intending to use it, she may find that pumping progresses more smoothly.
There are a few very good pumps out there for this purpose.
