Darci,
you posted about hiv and breastfeeding. I just wanted to comment on one
paper you cited: Smith, M. & Kuhn, L. (2000, Nov.). Exclusive
breast-feeding: Does it have the potential to reduce breast-feeding
transmission of HIV-1? Nutrition Reviews, 58 (11), 333-340. I think this
paper is quite interesting -- looking at the research and questioning what
mechanisms of exclusive bf are in the face of HIV. However, when the people
who are interested in breastfeeding use language about 'exclusive bf having
the potential to reduce bf transmission', it shows just what dire straights
we are in. Surely it should be: "deviation from the biological /
physiological norm of exclusive breastfeeding:does this have the potential
to increase the transmission risks of HIV-1?"
May I coin a new verb? (With apologies to Diane.) The language and the
thought processes in this paper need to be 'wiessingerised'.
