I am NOMAIL at the moment but have been following this discussion from
afar. I fear that the strong reaction to Dr. Sears' very unfortunate
decision is provoking a case of "throwing out the baby with the bath
water." Certainly I feel his books are WONDERFUL means of support for new
mothers, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to relatives or
friends. _The Fussy Baby_ got me through the early months of my 3d baby's
life; if it hadn't been for Bill Sears, I would've gone nuts, because I got
support from his book that I did not get anywhere else.
Look, he made a huge mistake. I don't know if he recognizes it yet or is
going to acknowledge it. To be honest, if I were him, and got some of the
letters I've seen on Lactnet, I would be more inclined to dig in my heels
and insist that I was right. I agree with Kathleen, Mary Kay and others
who are pleading for this to be a professional dialogue.
Sincerely,
Mary Riley Renard
