Hi Rachel et. al In regards to mixing breast milk and formula:
Silly me! I was thinking of gavage feedings with a syringe and tubing where
each ml is carefully measured. We put in as much breast milk as we have and
add formula to the required amount. None is wasted. We transition from
gavage to breast, eliminating bottles whenever it is possible. So, if the
baby is feeding at the breast, we use our standard protocol for
supplementation by tube if it is needed after the breastfeeding, using
formula. When the baby is strictly bottle feeding, I think your suggestion
is a good one. Makes a lot of sense. One doesn't want to waste the good
stuff!
