Tracy Hogg, the baby whisperer, is not a midwife, but according to
her blurb, a registered nurse specialising in maternal and child
health. Midwives in the UK would be very careful to make a
distinction between themselves and a nurse. The following URL is part
of her website, which sells her Baby Technique services.

http://www.babytec.com/breastfeedingfacts.htm

It is an unobjectionable page or so stressing why breastfeeding is
important for your baby's health and for your own - so something has
happened to make Tracy change her mind for her book, where she
clearly is much more ambivalent about whether or not it is worth the
bother.

The book is trying to sell itself on two important and appealing
fronts - it claims to offer techniques to 'control' your baby, but
also claims the touchy-feely stuff about responding to and
communicating with your baby.

It's a bit like the way formula manufacturers highjack the imagery
and trigger words of breastfeeding - so you see soft focus pics of
sleepy, contented babies, and happy mothers gazing into their
babies' eyes, with the use of words like closeness.

It's all marketing, marketing, marketing.....
