I missed the earlier posts on this, but the condition is familiar to me. Two
of my brother's children probably have this condition. His oldest son is a
now freshman in college, attending on several scholarships, was
valedictorian of his class, quite healthy and a good athlete besides. He ran
cross-country and track events, wrestled, and played varsity soccer and
tennis; also refereed soccer and baseball for the local recreation league.
His sister is a senior in HS and in the top of her class, also very
athletic, plays flute in the school orchestra & band. Both are slender and
gangly, a little different-looking, with some odd bony configurations
(almost no clavicles). The girl has weird patellas, too, that caused some
problems for her in soccer till she learned to run a certain bent-knee way.
Both probably had some sucking problems early on - but both also inherited
my family's narrow, recessed jaw, and that may have been part of the suck
problems. Their mom probably should have been pumping a bit as well as
nursing. Both breastfed well past a year.
