I thought we had all agreed (a couple of years ago?)
that it was indeed ok to use the brand names of items
as part of a discussion, but not selling. In the
recent discussion on breastfeeding support pillows,
someone referred to the "my brest friend" as the firm
foam one, and some other without a name, but it wasnt'
as effective. Then someone else mentioned a great one
by name- "Billow pillow". The nameless one should be
avoided, but we don't know what that nameless one is!
and I only knew the "firm foam" pillows name because I
own one...... hmmm... but I could be wrong and maybe
there's a better one out there.

oh no! what should I do....?

this is only an example, but I (and others) have found
that it really doesn't help the discussion along, nor
does it help when someone wants to recommend/caution
against particular incarnations of a product. Most of
us can tell when someone is only trying to sell their
product.
