I have been asked by a mother who is breastfeeding an 18mo old if she can
continue to BF as she just found out she is pregnant and is taking
Prometrium 100mg BID. She had infertility problems with her first and has
had 3 ectopic pregnancies. She doesn't know if this one is ectopic or not
yet. Her progesterone level is low so her MD has her taking the Prometrium.
I cannot find this in Hale. Of course, her MD's have all said 18 months of
breastfeeding is enough.....Mom planned to continue til around 2 and wanted
it to be baby-led. She now breastfeeds 2 times per day. She doesn't want to
harm the fetus but doesn't want to stop cold turkey. I would think if this
is just progesterone, she should be able to continue to breastfeed just as
moms who take birth control pills with Progesterone. I didn't know if maybe
this dose is exceptionally high and would hurt the fetus.
Any info would be appreciated.
