I don't remember how much information this book contained regarding
nursing norms in the African American community, but it might be a place
to start, Our Babies, Ourselves: How Biology and Culture Shape the Way
we Parent, by Meredith Small. Published 1998. Small is an anthropology
prof at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and might be a good resource
too. GOod luck!

Subject: HELP! Cultural beliefs during pregnancy and childbearing
Anyone have good ideas on where to look for information on cultural
beliefs related to the African American population?? I thought it would
be easy to find and it has been very difficult. I have plenty on
breastfeeding; just not much on pregnancy and birth
Many, many thanks
