Hi everyone! It's possible to make a homemade version of this "Newman type"
nipple cream without a doctor's prescription or compounding. You can use a
dab of OTC triple antibiotic ointment, anti-fungal cream, and hydrocortisone
cream. Just mix a dab of each together with your fingers and rub gently
into the nipple/areola tissue after feedings. The active ingredients are
gone from the surface of the skin in approx. 30 min., I've been told, so the
baby will not ingest anything.
*If you're careful with your wording, you can suggest this to a mother
without "giving medical advice", or "prescribing".* It works wonderfully!
Warmly,
Lisa Huntze, BSE, LLLL, IBCLC
