Once again, my kids are an example of the extreme! However, they are
absolutely great kids--well, adults now. I have friends who envy my
kids, so I think we did something right!
They were all BF to sleep. They all awoke multiple times each night. I
considered 5 times a night the usual. They all weaned themselves at
about 2 1/2 yrs. One, the cat-napper, cat-nurser I wrote about the
other day, continued awakening until she was nearly four. We moved into
this house 6 wks before her birthday, and she started sleeping through
the night! I don't have the answer to that except that night time
awakening is not related to BF!
There are a few things I tried, and most of them didn't work, just like
the experience these parents are having. One thing I did do, however, I
have suggested to others, and this babe is old enough, in my opinion. I
put my kids into twin beds as early as possible. Eighteen mos is a fine
age. I taught them how to get themselves out of the bed, so they would
not fall out. I then tried to go to bed with them, nurse them to sleep,
and then go to bed in my bed. It worked some of the time, but enough
for me to keep trying it with each kid. The benefits--babe isn't being
moved, Dad (who in my house was complaining about being awakened) misses
most of the awake time, and the baby can come and get you without
crying!
Good luck!
