Hmmm...again! The LLL series of meetings is a four-month series centered
around the four topics of 1) advantages of breastfeeding, 2) common concerns
in the early weeks/months, 3) how to avoid and prevent problems and 4)
nutrition/weaning. The meetings will have varying titles but the general
idea is (should be) the same.

When I lead meetings I usually state the topic and ask if there are any
burning questions that don't relate to the topic because I want to be sure
all questions are answered and then remind the mothers that they can ask
other questions at any time, even if they are "off topic". Of course, all
Leaders are different and will have different ways of leading meetings. I
have seen the range from lecture format to "free-for-all".

I am interested that you see LLL as "mainstream"! So often we fight the
stigma of being so *not* mainstream. Forty-five years ago, the things LLLI
encouraged (delay of solids until 4-6 months, nursing beyond the first
birthday, active participation in childbirth and frequent, early time at the
breast, among others) were seen as bizarre and "way out there". Now those
things are more commonplace and mainstream. The Founders of LLLI were so
ahead of their time!!
