From the LA Times article, which did have a lot of good info before the
breast is best, BUT part:
'breast pumps, which are the ticket to going back to work and to maternal
freedom'
How on earth did I manage until now?
Isn't it interesting that the folklore on breastfeeding includes, on the one
hand, you are just as much a mother if you feed by bottle, and on the other,
you are only tied to your baby if you breastfeed?
Of course anyone with a commitment to caring for a child is tied to the
child. They'd better be!
And how a mechanical object which must be transported, cleaned, and supplied
with electricity in many cases, and which requires some system for
collecting/storing/transporting milk from the point of collection to the
point of consumption, is a 'ticket to maternal freedom' is more than I can
comprehend.
Maternal freedom would be having the choice of: going back to work outside
the home, with or without the baby, onsite or offsite child care, BF breaks
with no reduction in pay, flextime, flexplace...
