Sorry, Carole, I don't eat Moreton Bay bugs, and wouldn't enjoy them!
And I've never been to the Redland Bay hotel - a bit hard to get to from my
suburb, using public transport. (Sorry, that's off the breastfeeding
track.)
As regards the baby diagnosed with bovine protein allergy, I assume this
means beef/veal and gelatine (from the hoofs)? It would seem to me that,
though total elimination from the mother's diet is difficult, it is at least
easier than eliminating soy, which is in so many packages products now,
including - in this part of the world - in gluten-free flour! I wonder if
there are additional allergens which haven't been investigated? This might
explain why the baby is still having symptoms. Perhaps testing the baby for
other possible allergies, so that the Mum can eliminate them from her diet,
would enable breastfeeding to continue and take away the pressure to feed
artificially on a "special" mixture.
The poor mother! The messages she and those round her, including health
workers, is obviously that breastfeeding is "harmful" and that it's the
cavalry (artificial feeding) to the rescue. And poor you, having to deal
with all this.
